Spaces part 1

I recently read a book entitled Community by Brad House. In one of his chapters he talks about 4 different spaces that we engage with people. I would like to share those with you in a four part series. These quick summaries were written by my pastor Jason Savage, follow him @savageheartburn

Participation

The first space is that one that is most common to meet people. There are already events, parks, restaurants, etc. existing in our community. All we have to do to engage this space is show up. Simply by participating in the community we can begin to engage the community. Though this is the most simple space to engage, many churches tend to compete with the community at this level. We don't want to compete but to engage.

What are some space in your community that you can engage with people? Where can you participate with others and be salt and light for Jesus?

Disciples who make disciple

Making disciples who make disciples is not that hard. It's as simple as sharing a meal together once or twice a week. Sharing your life with others, daily. Working together. Playing together. Being together.

I want to share with you a quick reference that I found. This is not a "do list" and you will make disciples, but this might help you thing about what you are doing every week.  Ask yourself, "How am I making disciple of Jesus?" One of the hardest things for Christians is to think about "being the church" all the time, instead of I/we go to church and disciple are made there. Making disciples happens everyday, everywhere. At work, in our neighborhoods, at our kids baseball practice, at the park or coffee shop.

Here is a picture of our Gospel Community on misson to make disciples. We have a meal together every week. We have DNA groups every week, gender based. (3-4 men and 3-4 women). We pray for one another, serve one another, teach one another, we play games with each other, we invite others to join us, we equip and send each other out as missionaries, to make disciples who make disciples.

Next Steps

I want to share with you how we will be planting Gospel Communities on mission over the next couple years. In a recent blog post, I shared the vision to see 50 GC's started here in Lake County. We have a wonderful partnership with Round Lake Christian Church and Jason Savage in planting these Gospel Communities.

First of all, Jason will be the moderator for the Orlando GCM collective (click here to read outline & vision). This will be a group of local church leaders, throughout Central Florida, that are leading their churches in missional living, making disciples who make disciples.

I will be helping in this endeavor by training & coaching those in our local context ( our GC's) and others from Orlando area churches. They will be equipped to go back to their cities, neighborhoods, and workplaces to engage others with the gospel of Jesus. How I will go about doing that brings me to the second part. I will take on the roll of a Gospel Community Coach and use resource like porterbrooknetwork.org  to teach and equip others to change their thinking about living as missionaries.

In order for this to happen we need your prayers and financial support. If you would like to partner with us please email jessekegg@gmail.com
